Overview
Olare Motorogi Conservancy is situated along the northern edge of Masai Mara National Reserve, and part of the Maasai Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. The 142-square kilometre Olare Motorogi Conservancy is yet another inspiring success stories of Masai Mara conservation efforts. With only five safari camps in the area, this conservancy offers an incomparable wildlife viewing experience in an uncrowded wilderness.
Legally declared a conservancy in May of 2006; back then Olare Motorogi Conservancy consisted of two separate conservancies; Motorogi and Olare Orok. To create the conservancy 277 Maasai landowners collectively set aside a total of 35,000 acres of their land, which led to the partnership we see today. The Conservancy later expanded to cover Motorogi lands, thereby becoming OLARE MOTOROGI CONSERVANCY.
The Conservancy is known for offering Kenya’s most spectacular scenery and remarkably high concentrations of wildlife can be spotted. It features endless wavy grasslands and beautiful dome-topped hills that give way to the dramatic sheer rock walls of the distant Oloololo Escarpment.

Best Time To Visit Olare Motorogi Conservancy
The long cool-dry season from June to October is considered by most to be the best time of year to visit Olare Motorogi Conservancy for game viewing; the absence of rain means that the vegetation is less dense, making animals easier to observe. Additionally the drier months of January and February are also a good times to visit while the best time for birdwatching usually happens from November to April when the migratory birds from Europe arrive.
Temperatures are consistent year-round, and rainfall is all that distinguishes the seasons with the short rains beginning in November and early December followed by the long rains in March and April.

The region’s Dry seasons starts from (June to October) whilst the Wet season (November to May) consist of a shorter and a longer rainy period that are accompanied by a brief dry spell.

June, July & August – During this time, consider Masai Mara generally sunny and dry with afternoon temperatures averaging at around 25°C/ (77 degrees Fahrenheit), and during the night you will experience cold evenings and early mornings when temperatures are at around 12°C/54° Fahrenheit.
September & October – At this time of year, it’s mostly dry although you can expect occasional rain showers. However – you don’t have to worry about it raining all day long but it does rain regularly, typically in the form of afternoon showers. The most common way of travelling to Olare Motorogi Conservancy is by road which is approximately 167 miles along the B3 and C12 main roads.
Driving from Nairobi will take you about 5-6 hours with Nairobi to Narok an estimate of about 2-2.5 hours, and about 3 hours to Olare Motorogi Conservancy. The road is scenic and makes for a fun road trip. There are several fuel stations In Narok, one just before the river, and another after the river which is a great stop for food, bathroom breaks, and snacks at both the ArtCafe, Narok Coffee house among other plenty cafeterias around Narok.
