Overview
The Mara Triangle lies in the southwestern sector of Masai Mara National Reserve in between the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, the famous Mara River and the Olooloo Escarpment where the Mara River forms a natural boundary line that embraces one-third of the Mara Reserve.
In addition to the dividing river, the area of the Mara Triangle is also defined by the Oloololo Escarpment (aka as Siria).
The area covers 510-square kilometers (126,023 acres) and is managed by a non-profit Mara Conservancy, a successful groundbreaking partnership between the public and private sector, between conservation professionals and the local Maasai community, to successfully conserve and manage one of the most animal-rich areas of the world.
Landscape & Scenery
The Mara Triangle extends across 510 square kilometers, approximately one third of the entire Masai Mara National Reserve. Due to its superb location, this wilderness also boasts an incredible, diverse landscape that includes rivers, streams, swamps, plains, volcanic features and much more.
Mara Triangle is also the entrance and exit point of the wildebeest migration that arrive from the Serengeti; making it one of the most strategic locations for game viewing drives in Masai Mara especially during the migration season safari.
The Mara Triangle is home to large populations of wildlife all year round. Its’ vast open plains and acacia forests are home to an amazing number of wildlife. Wildlife At Mara Triangle Conservancy
Since Mara Triangle is less visited and less crowded than the rest of the other game parks, it is home to large populations of wildlife all year round. Its’ vast open savannah plains and acacia forests are home to an amazing number of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, elands and impalas.
As expected in this area, predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals and cheetahs can always be spotted loitering nearby.
The banks of the Mara River provides a good shelter and food to elephants, buffaloes, hippos and baboons. Last but not least, during the Great Migration, a number of crocodiles lie in wait in the muddy waters of the Mara River, ready to attack weakened wildebeests or zebras attempting to cross the river.
Best Time To Visit Mara Triangle Conservancy
The Dry season months from June to October, when animals draw near to water, are ideal for visiting Mara Triangle Conservancy. The short rains usually fall in November and December, with longer rains likely in March and April (sometimes continuing into May). The dry spell between the rains in January and February is also a good time to visit, but it can be busy then. Migratory birds are present from November until April.

The weather and climate of Mara Triangle Conservancy is identical to that of the Masai Mara in general.
Due to the altitude, the climate in Mara Triangle Conservancy is slightly colder and wetter than might be expected this close to the equator. Daytime is pleasant with temperatures in the mid to high twenties Celsius (mid-seventies to low eighties Fahrenheit), while it cools off significantly at night.
Consider this the perfect time for going on a Kenya safari; the days are sunny and it’s rarely very hot. Nevertheless pack some warm clothes for the morning game drives which can be very chilly.
June, July & August – During this time, consider Masai Mara generally sunny and dry with afternoon temperatures averaging at around 25°C/ (77 degrees Fahrenheit), and during the night you will experience cold evenings and early mornings when temperatures are at around 12°C/54° Fahrenheit.
September & October – At this time of year, it’s mostly dry although you can expect occasional rain showers. Daytime temperatures in October are slightly at an average of 27 degrees Celsius (81 degrees Fahrenheit). On your early morning game drives expect it to be chilly at around (around 12°C/54°F).

Your flight entry point to Kenya for safari will most likely be Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) – Nairobi, 15km/9mi southeast of the capital city Nairobi.
The Mara Triangle Conservancy is also reachable by road. If it happens to be the case; travelling by road to Mara Triangle is approximately 230km/145mi from Nairobi. The access roads could take 5 and a half hours to drive from the capital with your entrance into the Sekenani Gate in Masai Mara.
