What will happen is that our 4X4 safari vehicles will pick you from your camp or lodge between 0400am -0530am and drive you to the launch site, to arrive by 0600AM; watch the balloons being prepared for take-off.

Generally, your Hot-Air Balloon flights in the Masai Mara takes off at the break of dawn between 06:15am and 06:30am after a freshly brewed coffee and flight safety brief. Floating silently during the ride over the savannah grasslands below where you may spot a variety of wildlife; keep in mind we cannot guarantee what you will see in any particular flight, every day is different.

The flight lasts an hour (1) and completes with a ”Champagne Bush Breakfast” upon your flight landing at the balloon landing site. Once you land between 7:15am and 7:30am, observe the complete deflating of the balloon before sitting down to a full bush breakfast; the Kenyan style, complete with eggs-to-order, sausages, fresh juices, fruits, cereals and, of course, sparkling wine.

After your bush breakfast, enjoy a relaxed game drive as you head back to your safari camp or safari lodge, arriving by around 10:30AM – already recalling the memories of the morning’s flight.

What To Expect

– As you rise above the skies of the Maasai Mara plains, before your eyes to feast on the golden sunrise, charming sceneries, with free-ranging wildlife it is likely you will spot elephants, giraffes, various antelope species, and ostriches from the balloon. If lucky you will also see hyenas, lions, and cheetahs, depending on the day’s flight path, you may also float along the Mara River and see hippos and crocodiles.

– If you happen to visit the Maasai Mara in between July and October, you will probably see the “Great Migration” of over a million wildebeest, along with large numbers of zebras and gazelles. Witnessing this wonder from the balloon ride is the best way to catch the migrating herds; an experience not to be missed.

– Pickup and transfers; one of our drivers will visit your safari lodge the evening before the flight to agree with you the time for collection in the morning, answer any questions on what to wear and to bring with you. Departure starts from your lodge where you are collected by one of our drivers in a 4×4 Land Cruiser safari vehicle before dawn (generally between 0400am and 0500am).

– Your balloon safari finishes in style whereby you toast your landing to earth with champagne breakfast in the Masai Mara (complete with sparkling wine), served in the bush close to wherever you land.
