Highlights Of Your 4-Days Mount Meru Climb in Tanzania

At a height of 4,566 meters (14,980 ft), Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located in Arusha National Park, 70 Kilometres (43 miles) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in the country of Tanzania. Typically Mount Meru Climb takes four days, but it can be done in 3 days to complete a trek to the Summit.

It is visible from Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day, and is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa, dependent on definition. Climb Mount Meru, Second highest Mountain in Tanzania, is great with no traffic and amazing wildlife experience as you hike past wild animals.

You will head on this 4-day hike up Mount Meru starting off the trail with a walking safari spotting buffaloes, giraffes, baboons, etc before getting soaked up with this beautiful but strenuous trail and enjoying the best views of Kilimanjaro. On this hike, you will stay overnight in huts. This hike is mostly done to pre-acclimatize and get ready for the kill but it is a joy on its own.

Day 1 Mount Meru

Mount Meru-We collect our guests from their hotel in Arusha and drive to Momella gate (1,500m), where the trekking begins. We follow the track through the forest and through the wild fig tree arch to small clearing, where we may see buffalo grazing, before continuing across the Jekukumia River and on for lunch at Njeku view point, with the Momella lakes and the plains beyond. Return to the track and continue to Miriakamba hut for our evening meal and overnight stay.

After breakfast, we walk through the glades and forest, filled with black and white colours monkeys, to Mgongo wa Tembo (Elephants Ridge). We will reach saddle Hut – 4 hours later and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, continue to the summit of little Meru for impressive views of the crater, the top of the ash cone and sheer cliffs of the crater’s inner wall. Your evening meal and overnight will be at Saddle Hut.
